EVO-X is an interactive art installation made for the GOGBOT technology festival in Enschede, the Netherlands. EVO-X represents an artificial being that knows suffering and empathy. With this artwork, we wanted to show viewers, that society is too reliant on the digital world. We use and we take, but we have no understanding of the importance of it.
With a series of videos, we wanted to create an atmosphere where people feel emotionally attached to this being. EV-OX has been so damaged by the way society treated it that it doesn’t work properly anymore.
The viewer of the artwork would see the story of EVO-X’s life portrayed on three hanging projection screens. Its life story would show how it was mistreated in its life and how it came to be. The viewer would then see EVO-X restrained in a light prison. There was extra interaction integrated into the artwork with motion sensors. When a viewer would come close, the head of EVO-X would turn around. This was done to shock the viewer. The goal was to make viewers feel emotionally connected to the being.
This artwork was exhibited in 2017 together with many other technology-themed artworks.
