Snacking behaviour in late adolescence is a growing cause for concern. Shoppy the Supermarket scanner is an intervention to reduce snacking behaviour among students.
Among students, the prevalence of overweight is roughly 20% and obesity is at 5%. This problem of gaining weight when going to university is widely known, and kind of accepted, referred to as the ‘Freshman 15’, but for the students substantiating these behaviours can lead to persevering problems throughout their later lives.
Well, we created a persuasive health system that is easily implementable and we believe could change snack consumption for the better. With the use of ‘Nutri-score’, which is like a health rating for foods, we want to limit snack buying in the supermarket and promote the acquisition of healthy alternatives.
Healthy snacking improves your day-to-day wellbeing as well as controls your weight. With the use of this system during grocery shopping, we hope to improve nutritional literacy and unhealthy snack consumption, before it is too late.
